Drift fishing catch of the day

Spring is finally here!

Spring is finally here! The long winter months for the local angler are finally coming to an end. Wintertime fishing is so unpredictable due to the drastic change in weather that we see in South Florida. From cold fronts approaching, to arriving, to stalling out on us; makes for a tough time for the local angler to adjust.  We all can’t wait for springtime when the weather gets into a calmer pattern and the ocean comes alive . Typically, we start off seeing sporadic cobia coming through. This is a very good sign of things to come. They start heading more north, coming up from the Keys as our temperatures rise.

Just the bite overall seems to improve with some nice catches of king mackerel, snappers, and cobia on the drift. Pictured is a great representation of a catch off our drift boat. VIP angler Cristina Gallo caught this beautiful 33 lb. cobia, fishing a dead sardine on a double hook 5/0 trailer rig with light weight in about 90 feet of water off the Boynton inlet . Cobias also tend to follow the stingrays as they stir up the bottom and expose the crabs that the cobias love to eat !

Well stayed tuned for more springtime catches coming your way!
