SOUTH BIMINI, BAHAMAS (June 12, 2012)—On July 3rd (with July 4th as a rain date), Bimini Sands Resort & Marina in the Bahamas will treat guests to its annual U.S. Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular. Resort owner Frank Cooney brings a professional fireworks company to South Bimini to shoot off the display – which lasts more than 45 minutes – over the water by the Beach Club, home to Bimini Twist Restaurant and Mackey’s Sand Bar. Over the years, Bimini Sands’ 4th of July fireworks display has become so popular that it draws an audience from all over the Biminis, including locals and visitors who watch the show from their boats.
But that’s only the beginning. The following week, Bimini Sands will present a second Fireworks Spectacular to celebrate Bahamas Independence Day on Tuesday, July 10.
South Bimini is a great, laid-back Bahamas destination year-round, but summer is the perfect time for family vacations on the island. Bimini Sands has two properties on South Bimini, each with a freshwater pool, and a new infinity pool is scheduled to open at the main resort overlooking the Gulf Stream this summer.
The Bimini Sands Resort also offers a long list of family fun activities, including:
- Guided Island Boat Tours (Spot a green sea turtle or manta ray!)
- Snorkeling on living coral reefs and the wreck of the concrete ship Sapona.
- Shark-feeding experiences
- Guided kayak adventures
- Paddleboard rentals
- Guided tours of the mile-long Bimini Nature Trail.
The fishing action has been hot around Bimini this year. A 688-pound giant tuna recently was landed near the islands, and the catch and release of a 1,000-pound marlin was reported. Sailfish and snapper also have been biting, and bonefishing is popular on Bimini’s mangrove flats. Boat owners will appreciate Bimini Sands’ easy-access, fully protected deep-water marina. For anglers who arrive by plane, inshore and offshore fishing charters are available.
Bimini Sands Resort & Marina is a perfect place for the whole family to relax, “unplug” and bond while having fun in a tropical Bahamas island setting.
