Jonathan Dickinson State Park and the Loxahatchee River–Florida’s first federally designated “Wild and Scenic River”—will be the host site for paddlers from across Florida in October for the 2013 Florida Paddlers Rendezvous, an annual four-day event filled with paddling, demonstrations, education, tours, swap shops, evening campfires, food and friendship.
Event organizers and sponsors of the rendezvous, the Palm Beach Pack and Paddle Club of West Palm Beach and the 27/80 Paddlers of Stuart, expect hundreds of paddlers to fill Jonathan Dickinson’s campgrounds, as well as area lodging accommodations.
Organized paddling trips, ranging from 2.5 miles to 8.5 miles round trip, will include the Loxahatchee River, Kitching Creek, Jupiter Lighthouse, St. Lucie State Park, South Fork, Peanut Island, and Mansion Row (Lake Worth Lagoon along the island of Palm Beach). Other organized activities include bird watching, bicycle tours, yoga, geocaching, jewelry making, microscope labs, and on-water rescue techniques all paddlers should know.
The cost is only $15 per person for the weekend. Campsites and lodging are not included in the registration fee. Some of the paddling trips are already sold out. To register or to learn more, visit www.paddle2013fl.com, email info@paddle2013FL.com or call (561) 963-9755.
