Fly of the Month: October 2016

fly-of-the-month

October is a magical time to be fishing in our beautiful state. This is peak season for the salmon run, but it can also be incredible trout fishing, especially with streamers. I’ve had good success with this pattern, for both trout and steelhead. It’s a variation of Kelly Galloup’s Boogieman series, with a few changes. It’s a fairly easy tie, and the trout seem to love it. Match it with a 6 or 7 weight rod and a 200 – 300 grain sink tip and pulse it through deep holes near structure or drop-offs. Do it long enough, and hopefully you will tie into a big aggressive fall brown trout. Or possibly a angry 30-pound male king salmon! Good luck, see you out there!
