Fort Bayou Fishing Forecast: April 2013

Hello to all Coastal Anglers, hope the spring weather stays sunny, calm and mild. Fort Bayou Charters is in full swing, staying on the fish as they migrate in from winter hideouts.

The very tasty and plentiful white trout and ground mullet will slowly start entering the MS Sound. Early April will see this duo on the deeper fish havens, FH9/11, FH 8 near Ship Island Later On, Kessler Reef, Whitehouse Reef and Katrina Key, all being a short ride from Biloxi Harbor, will put you in the middle of great light tackle action. If speckled trout is on the menu look towards the emerald green waters of our barrier islands.

The best time to try your luck is on the full moon in April. Find grass beds and chances are the big female trout will be near. The islands of Ship and Horn will also hold the hard fighting sheepshead and the great tasting Florida Pompano. Both can be found easing along the shallow sand bars scattered along the tips of both islands. I have found using small live shrimp behind a Carolina rig works best when targeting both species. Fort Bayou Charters is proud to announce a new partnership with www.trophystack.com. This is a unique website built for fishermen to view what species is being caught around the entire country. Still in the early stages of development this social media for the outdoorsman will help you find the best area to travel when looking at a particular species.

Check out FortBayouCharters.com in April for specials and info on the Coast’s most exciting charter service!

God Bless,
Capt. Mike Adams
