Fort Bayou Fishing Forecast: June 2013

I may sound like a broken record, but this weather to start the season has caused headaches for
inshore anglers. June may change things for the better. As I’m writing this forecast, the rain has temporarily
let up.

June will bring just about every inshore species within casting distance for coastal anglers. Look for the tasty ground mullet and white trout to move closer towards Biloxi Back Bay. Remember when targeting these species to watch the tide. Shallow reefs should be fished on an incoming tide, while deeper reefs in the 7-foot range will be the best during a falling tide.

The end of May has seen the migration of the exotic triple tail invading the inshore pilings and crab corks around Deer Island and the area between Davis Bayou east to Pascagoula. If chasing monster fish is on your mind, then June will bring giant black drum and bull reds within a short boat ride from most launch ramps along the coast. The bridges of Highway 90 and CSX Railroad will hold these brutes through the month of June. With summer approaching and more stable weather this month, the water will be filled with boats of all shapes and sizes. I am often hearing of inconsiderate anglers causing a fun, family outing to be ruined.

Please show respect for others by keeping a fair distance, there is plenty of water for everyone to enjoy, especially those that only get out once or twice a month. Teach a child that fishing is fun and catching is a bonus.
