Freshwater Fishing Forecast: July 2013

July heat is sending the brackish water brutes to their predictable summer patterns. The further reaches of all our tidal rivers provides a canopy of shade along the river edge. Th ere you will find bass of all sizes lurking for a chance to strike out at their unsuspecting prey. Two places I like to target in this area.

First the deeper bends in the riverside where you will find bass hanging out in the cooler deeper water during summer.

Second area is sand bar flats , not exactly sure what makes them cruise like a mini destroyers waiting for ambush, but in the summer, when the water gets that clear tantric look you’ll be surprised at the many lunker bass every where. When the tide is moving good I try an array of top water baits. Anything from a frog to buzz baits with all different types of prop baits thrown in. If the area looks still with no sign of life try using different plastic lures with a dead stick approach. Th is summer looks to be a hot one so keep plenty of fluids in the boat and remember to use lots of sunscreen to prevent skin cancer. Teach a kid to fish, the reward you receive is priceless.
