Freshwater Fishing Report: Febuary 2014

Capt. Neal Stark

The high water is coming down at Sawgrass and Holiday Parks, meaning that fishing is getting better every day. Sawgrass Recreational Park continues to produce lots of fish and fish of good quality as well. The Gambler Ace and Fat Ace sinkos, rigged Texas, and wacky rigged baits continue to shine. Holey Land is producing good bags as well by worming the ledges and using swim baits. A swim bait that has proven itself as a winner is the Gambler Big-EZ, and the Easy swimmer. Swimming these lures through the pads has worked well for me. Holiday Park has been on fire. The flats continue to produce huge bags of bass. Gambler Big-EZ, Easy swimmer, Burner Worm, Flukes, and swim jigs paired up with an Easy Swimmer seem to do the trick! Lake Okeechobee has had great shiner fishing for monster fish. With the full moon last month we had another wave of bedding fish move up. Working baits in the grass and flipping have been producing big fish. Lake Ida continues to shine. All techniques mentioned above will work as well as a spinner bait in white. Wishing you bent rods and big bass…And, remember, as the water levels recede, the fishing will only get better!
