October is a topwater bass fisherman’s dream. The water temperature is slowly falling, causing the bass action to heat up. A walk-type bait like a Zera Spook in bone or clear color will entice some hard charging hits. When using this bait make sure the hooks are good quality and going up a size will result in more hookups. If fishing around abundant aquatic vegetation a more weedless approach may be the answer. I start off with topwater frog like a Spro ar any similar brand. This time of year I go with white belly to attract some lunkers from their hideouts. A Zoom Horny Toad in white or with a pearl bottom rigged on a 4/0 Gamatsu Superline hook attached to 30 pound power pro will also get the job done when fishing the thick stuff. If your a weekend warrior here are a few dates with decent tide movement: 10-12, 10-19, and 10-26. For the most part October is shaping up for some good bass fishing. The bigger marsh areas on Pascagoula and Pearl Rivers will produce the most action for numbers of bass. Pick a good tide movement day and head to one of our beautiful rivers and enjoy one of the best months for fishing and weather.
Please be safe and courteous when around other fishermen.
