November is sailfish season here in South Florida. As the weather begins to cool down, and we get the first few cold fronts moving through, the sailfish start snapping like mad dogs. We catch sailfish throughout the year here in South Florida, but late fall and early winter is definitely the best season for catching the most sails. Sailfish aren’t the only fish biting out there either. Dolphin have finally made their way into our waters. The dolphin are schooling up along the weedlines offshore, anywhere from 4-10 miles offshore. Most of the dolphin we’re catching are in the 6 to 10 pound range, with the bigger dolphin topping the scales upwards of 30 pounds.
Wreck fishing is extremely good this season too. Red snapper, we call them vermillion snapper, are biting in 200-300 foot of water using multiple hook rigs baited with chunks of squid. Fishing the same spots but instead dropping live baits, you also have good chances at catching cobia, amberjack and warsaw grouper. Warsaw grouper can reach weights over 50 pounds and are biting consistently around the deep shipwrecks.
Offshore or inshore, there is a lot of fishing activity happening. Good luck to everyone out there and tight lines!
