GATORBAIT’S KAYAK BASS CHALLENGE | September 19

Venue: Lake Okeechobee, J & S Fish Camp

Gatorbait’s first Kayak Bass Tournament on Lake Okeechobee drew paddlers from both coasts. The weather was great and the teams had some good times. Since kayaks are not generally equipped with live-wells, these tournament anglers need to release their fish as soon as they are landed. So instead of holding fish for weigh-ins, the winner is determined by the sum of each fish’s length. As the fish is landed it is placed on a measuring board, the measurement is recorded, a picture is taken, and then the fish is released back into the lake. Since tournament kayakers cannot travel great distances in search of bass as the bass-boat tournament anglers do, each fish caught becomes an important element of the tournament.
