Getting That Trip on Film

Have you ever wished that you could capture a great day of fishing with some friends on film or as digital files? Most of us would say “yes, that would be cool, but I can’t afford a bunch of expensive cameras…and what happens if one ends up falling in the water?” Many people get scared off by the cost to do something like that, and certainly could not afford to replace a camera if something went wrong. We are not videographers who are doing this for a living!

The good news: in this age of ever-changing technology, things getting smaller and faster. Equipment is also getting cheaper for the regular consumer.

So, how are you going to get those awesome high definition videos while fishing out of your kayak? Hero Go Pro Cameras are the answer to this question. They are small, compact and waterproof.

These HD cameras are amazing, recording at 1080p, with a battery life of 2.5 hours…and you can pack all that time onto a 32gb SD Card. The camera is waterproof to a depth of 180 feet and is housed in a removable polycarbonate housing. So, because sometimes a day in the kayak can be rough, this camera can take a beating. The still shots are 5 megapixels. I have been using them since they first came out, and I can tell you they produce some great footage.  The surf package ($269.99) comes with an adhesive mount. For ten dollars less (259.99), you can get the Naked which has no mounting, so you can chose which system you want.

I prefer mounting the camera to the kayak, using some new things Yak Attack has introduced.  The PanFish mounts to any existing rail system or Yak Attacks Gear Trac rail system. You can also mount your camera to the Yak Attack Mighty Mount system. All these are great for mounting rod holders also, so if you install these products on your kayaks, they will serve a dual purpose. If you use these Yak Attack products with multiple cameras, you can achieve different shot angles while you are on the water fishing.

So, by using multiple Hero Go Pro Cameras on your kayak, mounted on different Yak Attack systems (you pick the ones that will work best on your kayak). You can film the paddle-out, the casts, the hook-up and the fight. By the time you get home and complete your editing, you will have videos that will make you look like a pro on Versus or Sportsman’s Channel. Just think, all your friends will wonder how did you get all those camera boats out there with you while you where kayak fishing, when actually, it was all you and your Hero’s and some great mounts for your kayak, capturing the whole day on the water. Now at the end of the day you can prove all those great fish stories and have them to share with others for a long time!
