[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ctober on the Grand River is a great time to catch a mixed bag of fish. There are steelhead, coho, brown trout, and king salmon around. Fishing can be fantastic if we have cooler weather and some rain to bring the fish upstream from Lake Michigan. The migratory fish can be caught anywhere from Grand Haven to Lansing and in all of the major tributaries that feed into the Grand River. The 6th Street Dam in Grand Rapids is probably where most anglers are catching fish. This area has the most fishing pressure as well. You can catch the salmon and trout species using a variety of techniques and baits. Float fishing with eggs or jigs works well for all species. Drift fishing with spawn bags, flies, wobble glos, or egg patterns. Throwing spinners, spoons, crankbaits, etc. is a fun way to latch onto an aggressive fish. Fly fishing with streamers, nymphs, or egg patterns is popular way to pursue the salmon and trout as well.
