Fishing is starting to heat up now that the weather is warming up. Double-digit numbers on kings are being caught between 40-70 feet of water. Spoons have been the best baits with some flies and meat rigs catching fish. As the water starts to warm, the fish will start to move offshore. Out on the inland lakes, gills, bass, and crappie are just now starting to show up because of our late spring. Lake Macatawa is a good fishery for crappies around the marina docks. It also has a great white bass fishery. Walleye fishing has also been good on the pier heads and should stay good until the alewives show up. The perch fishing should also start to pick up as the fish come off the spawning grounds. The flats south of Holland to Saugatuck can be good and also don’t forget the bubbler out of Port Sheldon.
