T he big lake fishing is starting to heat up. Good numbers of lake trout are showing up from the pier heads out to 80 feet. Most of the trout are coming in the top of the water columns because of the cold water. Spoons have been good high, and fenders with either spin n glows or fly’s fished low have been good. We are starting to see more kings also starting to show up but for now it has been a little slow because of the cold water. Best presentations have been 2,3,5,7,8 colors of lead and the high copper sets have been good also. Best baits have been either stingray size or mag size spoons. Mixed veggies have been good and also yellow tux.
Walleye fishing has been fair with most of the fishing happening inside the channels after dark. Huskey Jerks have been the best with some swim baits working as well. Perch fishing has been slow out of Holland but doing well out of Grand Haven. Perch pounders have been good with either spikes or minnows working well. The clay banks have been holding most of the fish.
For the month of June, we will look for the waters to warm and the fish to start showing up more each day. This looks to be the same pattern as last year so the presentations for the big lake will be high and should range from that 80-200 feet, and that will all depend on mother nature. Get out if you can and as the water warms so should the fishing.
