Summer has come, which means species such as redfish and spanish/king mackerel have arrived in our coastal waters as well. The arrival of these species makes trolling a very popular option for saltwater anglers during the hottest months.
While most anglers may be worried about their normal trolling gear, such as the size of your planers and spoons, anglers should also be wary of another very important factor: the knots. A sloppy knot on a trolling rig will create whitewater. This is a problem because the whitewater will scare off the redfish and mackerel. It is essential that the tails of any Benjamin twist knots, or any other knots for that matter, are cut off to reduce any obstacles that could create whitewater as much as possible.
Anglers should also make sure to give their knots an extra pull to make sure they are tight. A loose knot will create all sorts of problems with the rig setup. With the proper knots and the right gear, anglers should have a summer to remember.
