Journey to Chatham or Provincetown this summer for a sharky experience!

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) has two Shark Center museums for Cape residents and visitors to explore, each with its own unique and engaging exhibits. Attracting over 20,000 guests each year, the Shark Centers have become popular Cape destinations.

This year, the Shark Center Chatham has a new interactive touch screen that allows visitors to peel back the layers of a shark to develop an understanding of its anatomy and physiology. This exhibit was created in partner- ship with the Georgia Aquarium and is sure to be a shark enthusiast favorite!

In addition to exhibits, the Shark Center Chatham hosts a series of educational programs for toddlers and early elementary aged students. The young- er audience of shark learners can enjoy a shark story hour on Tuesday and Thursday mornings throughout the summer.

The Conservancy’s Shark Center Provincetown, located at 16 MacMillan Wharf, is designed to simulate an underwater experience through customized lighting, imagery and life-sized shark models. The center features a collection of shark jaws from various species found throughout New England, and an interactive “sand table” that demonstrates how sharks and seals travel around the sandbars of the Outer Cape.

At Shark Center Provincetown, visitors are also introduced to a few of the 600 individual white sharks that have been identified through AWSC’s research efforts. Guests learn how free-swimming sharks are tagged off the coast of Cape Cod and can continue to follow these sharks using the nonprofit’s White Shark Logbook and Sharktivity App.

For those interested in seeing white sharks in the wild, AWSC offers private shark charters providing guests with the opportunity to become part of an elite group of adventures as they witness the apex predators in their natural habitat and get a first-hand understanding of AWSC’s efforts to study the species to conserve Cape Cod’s biologically diverse marine ecosystem.
