We hope the shot on this month’s cover caught your eye! The picture, taken by Cody Rubner, captures the anticipation on the eve of the 2015 Cheeky Schoolie Tournament on Cape Cod. Joe Gugino, CEO & Co-Founder of Why Knot Fishing, is tying on one of his favorite Mud Dog Saltwater Flies in preparation for the next day’s competition. This fly fishing, wade-only, tournament featured over 150 anglers, in teams of two, and Joe, along with fellow WKF Co-Founder Matt Zimmermann, were able to pull off second place with a combined 100+ inches of their four longest striped bass.
Why Knot Fishing was started by Joe and Matt and in the spring of 2015 and has always been focused on the excitement of the fishing community. They started off as an informal group of anglers getting together and having fun, and have now moved to official tournaments and year-round meet-ups to engage the community. They are deeply committed to Catch & Release and Take A Kid Fishing philosophies, and partner with and support as many conservation initiatives as possible.
Other than events and tournaments, Why Knot Fishing has also partnered with Little Harbor Boathouse in Marblehead, MA to provide Hobie Kayak Fishing Charters anywhere from Boston Harbor to the Merrimack River. They invite anyone to join them for either their Kayak Fishing Meet-ups to a Kayak Fishing Charter this summer!
