Have you ever been aboard a boat and find your father, boyfriend, husband or significant other waits until you are reeling in a fish before they give you a clue what to do? Change the pattern! The acclaimed ‘noyelling school of fishing’, Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!, lands in South Florida three dates this spring – a mini-university in Ft. Myers/ Matlacha, March 9-10, 2013; Ft. Lauderdale, April 12-14, 2013; and Stuart, May 10-12, 2013.
This two-day ‘fishing university’ is designed to help women to either become an angler or to improve their fishing skills. In its 17th year, the Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing! program has graduated over 7,000 lady anglers.
Expert educators will demonstrate ethical angler habits, such as safe hook removal, release techniques, fish venting and more. And local fishing guides will provide instruction on fishing techniques and methods. Hands on activities range from spin casting, gaffing grapefruits, cast netting, trailer backing and boat handling.
Activities for the March and April ‘full’ universities launch Friday night with a networking ‘meet and greet’. On Saturday, classroom presentations, which include offshore, bottom, inshore and fly fishing, begin at 8 a.m., followed by lunch and hands on fishing skills until 4:30 p.m.
The new mini-university, slated in Ft. Myers/Matlacha starts with lunch (12:30 p.m.) and ends at 5 p.m. with a raffle and happy hour. The focus is on inshore fishing and practicing skills one-on-one.
To reinforce the ‘land’ training, an optional on-the-water fishing adventure is offered on Sunday at all three universities.
Registration for the March mini-university is $69. Registration for the April and May full universities starts at $99 for the first 20 ladies to sign up, then $135 afterwards. The fee includes instruction, use of equipment, hands-on training, networking reception, meals and goody bags. The Sunday Fishing Adventure, with tackle and bait provided, is additional (options range from $45 up to $165). No equipment or experience is necessary.
Speakers and seminars may vary by location. To see the full agendas, register, or to learn more, visit www.ladiesletsgofishing.com or call (954) 475-9068.
