Lake Arenal Fishing Report and Forecast December 2015 and January 2016
Hello fisherman! The lake levels are holding steady and a bit high for this month, but the temperature is 82-84 degrees with lots of good size fish near the shorelines. Casting Zara spooks with a slow retrieve you get some “fantastic”, as one client put it, strikes from both rainbow bass and the toothy machacca. Rapalas in silver, brown or perch color only in the smaller sizes work well off the grass or pounding the many points Lake Arenal has.
Fly fishing has been exciting with big machacca lurking tight in the grass!
One client caught 11 nice machacca and a couple rainbow bass all on the same ” secret ” fly only to loose it to a 5-6lb fish, then the fly floated up, we tied if back on and he caught several more. He asked for the fly to mount in his frame of the photo of his biggest machacca he caught!!
