[dropcap]C[/dropcap]hristmas is just around the corner. It seems as though we just got this year started. Our fishing forecasts are predictions based on our knowledge of fish behavior and weather patterns. Weather and temperature have a huge influence on fish behavior. During December the water cools and the predictions about what fish will do are very easy. As the water temperature continues to drop the big flatheads will bite. We have had customers come in during the last two weeks with huge flatheads. Live bait is always best and we cannot say enough about being prepared for any kind of weather. You can never have too many dry clothes with you when you are out on the water. Many folks bring their own bait to the river and others prefer to catch it when they get there. Eels continue to be the best catfish bait hands down. If you would rather chase Crappie, get some small minnows. The bream will still bite in many spots on the river and you can do quite well using them for bait. The bream bite is a bit slower and red worms or wax worms seem to work best this time of the year. And for you bass fishermen, Crawdads can be the best bait this time of year. As much of this month is spent in preparation for the holidays, a few hours on the water can bring a welcome respite. Grab your warm clothes and your kids or grandkids and go fish.
