Lure of the Month: MEDLOCK FLIPPING JIG

lure

With trophy bass fishing in full swing, this month’s lure is the Medlock Double Guard Flipping Jig. Produced by Joe and Brandon Medlock, this lure is manufactured locally in Lake Placid, Florida. Its double weed guard design was created to find a more weedless approach to flipping, pitching, and punching through the heavy grass mats found in Lake Okeechobee and other South Florida lakes.

The head consists of a half football triangular shaped weight attached to a stout 6/0 Gamakatsu hook and finished off with a StarFlash skirt. Its unique design allows the hook to remain in striking position as it penetrates the cover thus allowing for stronger insertion and setups.

The Medlock Jig comes in three sizes; 1⁄2, 3⁄4, and 1-oz, and a variety of colors including; Black-Blue, Green Pumpkin, Green Pumpkin w/Purple Flake, Okeechobee Craw, June Bug, and PB-J.

Pair it with your favorite trailer and you create a tournament proven bait. Bass Pro Brandon Medlock has competed and won several pro tournaments using their family’s lure.
Since the lure is designed to be used in thick vegetation it is not a finesse lure, it’s a reactionary type lure and should be matched with tackle that can pull a bass out of the thickest weeds.

Medlock Lures can be found at Roland Martin’s Marine Center, Garrard’s Bait & Tackle, Fast Break, Lorida General Bait & Tackle, and select on-line tackle retailers.
