Manistee: June 2014

manistee

June looks good, the water is starting to warm up and the kings are showing up in good numbers. The king salmon seem to be running around 10-18 pounds. The brown trout fishing has been good as well and there should be plenty of browns around into June. Everything is a little later than normal because of the cold spring we had. The water temperatures out of Manistee have been in the 48-50 degree range, as the water warms up we should be seeing some good off shore fishing.

We should start seeing temperature breaks forming on the top of the water column. When you find a good break or scum line you can catch steelhead, lake trout and kings running Dream Weaver spoons with a flat lines and lead core lines. You can run one to ten colors of lead, depending on how far down you want to fish. We also run flashers on divers and Spin Doctors with meat rigs. The king salmon fishing can be out standing on the shelf out of Manistee, which has depths from 50-200 foot of water. Fishing can also be good close to shore and around the pier heads. This time of year you can catch a mixed bag of fish, anything from salmon, brown trout, lake trout, and an occasional steelhead. Last year we had some monster sized kings and hope to see the same with this upcoming 2014 season. Good luck. Hope to see you out on the water.
