Fishing in March out of Stuart is a meat lover’s paradise. Cobia, wahoo, dolphin and many more tasty species invade the southeast coast of Florida starting in March and normally remain through May or early June. Cobia becomes the highlight in March despite great grouper fishing. Grouper season remains closed to May 1st (bummer), but ample supplies of cobia make their way both from the north and the south and find a happy home in Stuart waters for the coming months. Keep in mind when targeting cobia that the minimum length required is 33 inches to the fork. Also remember that you are only allowed to possess one cobia per person with a maximum of six per vessel in State of Florida waters. You are allowed to possess two cobia per person in Federal waters with a maximum of six. Wahoo fishing is still great in March. Your best bet is to fish the first couple hours of daylight or last couple hours of light in the evening. Fish natural baits deep or high speed troll lures at staggered depths at a speed of around 15 knots. Best depths to target wahoo are between 130 to 340 feet. Dolphin fishing will remain steady with big fish making occasional appearances on the southeast winds we normally see during the month of March. Fish ballyhoo with colored skirts that mimic flying fish or small lures that mimic juvenile dolphin for best results. March is a great month to fish offshore.
