Mercury Marine’s new 75, 90 and 115-hp FourStroke outboard engines offer the ultimate combination of power and thrust, unsurpassed fuel economy and extreme reliability. But what has boaters talking out loud—literally, is how quiet and smooth the engines are running. During a recent media event in Wisconsin, reporters from across the country were given the opportunity to test out the new engines, and the common theme was just how quietly the engines run.

The new Mercury FourStroke engines are built with the same architecture as the extraordinarily reliable and extremely popular Mercury 150 FourStroke to ensure they start and run consistently and last longer no matter what conditions they face.

Mercury has invested millions of dollars annually on research and development, with a premium focus on not only a quieter engine, but a more efficient engine. In the new outboard engines, Mercury used a tightly sealed top cowl and idle relief muffler system to reduce exhaust noise. Shock while shifting into gear was also reduced in the new outboards, decreasing the noise and providing the boater with a first-class experience.

An all-new world-class hydrodynamically designed standard gearcase decreases drag by 15 percent to improve efficiency and performance, thus it consumes less fuel and increases operating range. The standard gearcase significantly improves performance on aluminum or fiberglass bass boats, flats boats, skiffs and smaller (less than 18 feet) deep-vee and runabouts.

Whether you seek improved overall performance and docking maneuverability for your pontoon, added thrust and holding power in rough waters for your center console or additional lift on your 18-foot-plus runabout or aluminum fishing boat, the new robust Mercury Command Thrust gearcase delivers unequalled control and power for heavier boats or boats that tend to run “wet” (more hull surface remaining in contact with the water after its planed). The Command Thrust models use the same bigger gearcase housing as the Mercury 150 FourStroke, but with an all-new 2.38:1 ratio ideally suited for pontoons and heavier boats. It’s the first true oversized gearcase in the industry for outboards in this horsepower range. Heavy and wet-running boats benefit from the gearcase’s ability to quickly lift a hull out of the water, resulting in greater acceleration and superior ability to hold plane at slower speeds.
