The weather this last few weeks of 2013 has been very unpredictable. Cold windy days has given way to uncommon warming trends and then a few days later cold again. We shouldn’t look for this to continue into the New Year. At some point we are going to get the arctic blast from up north. Well, hopefully with the cold, some goodies were left off for Christmas to all the good bass’in guys an gals! As the fishing takes a back seat to the deer stand Santa should know that fuel stabilizer is a popular stocking stuffer. Anytime your boat sits up for more than a month proper care should be given to the vessel’s fuel system: make sure the tank is completely full and fuel stabilizer is added. This will make life more bearable when you finally get back to fishing.
The lack of rain has made all our coastal rivers clearer than normal. Using light fluorocarbon line will entice more bites, especially on slow moving baits. Look for windblown banks with deep water nearby this will help in camouflaging line making your lure look more natural. January will bring colder water temps so remember to slow down your presentation and when a bass does strike pay attention to where your bait was in relation to the available cover and try other areas that resemble it.
January has a few different tournament to choose from…. Bass Shamps January 4th Back Bay Gulfport Lake, Kings of the River Pascagoula Lake January 18th, bass shamps team tournament Pascagoula January 25th
To all the great Coastal Angler regulars… I hope that you have a joyous New Year!
