It’s February and the fishing should be getting better. So it’s time to start leaving the woods and get back out on the water. The winter pattern is still in full swing. Cold days fish slow and on warmer days a little shallower and a little faster. The fish have been caught in the Mobile River at the state docks, in the deep water using grubs drug on the bottom or bounced very slowly. Also in the Dog River, Fowl River, and sometimes on the causeway, if the water isn’t too fresh. The Sheepshead are coming from some piers and rock jetties using dead shrimp or live (when u can find them this time of year). The trout, white trout, and redfish are in these areas, so be patient trying to catch them. Some days, it’s all you can catch and slow on other days. Look for redfish to start showing up around the beaches and piers in Mobile Bay, looking for the last of the bait
that made it through the cold water months. Sheepshead should also be starting to spawn this month. The jetties around Dauphin Island and Perdido should be productive, as well as any rig or oyster reef, bridges, etc. Live and dead shrimp will do the trick on these fish. Whiting are still all over the gulf beaches. Redfish should be in all the deep holes in any river, as well as Grand Bay, Fowl River, Little River, etc… With any luck you will catch these fish.
