Mobile Bay Fishing Report: Sept. 2013

Wow, can it rain any more. We have had rain almost every day since the end of June. The conditions in the bay and the delta are terrible with too much fresh water, and about 3 to 4 inches of visibility. The fishing has also been terrible. If you plan to try to catch some redfish or trout the coast is the place to be.

Fort Morgan or Dauphin Island are holding some nice catches. The shoals and grass flats early in the morning. A live shrimp on a popping cork or a Mirrolure Top Dog or Catch Jr. are a good bet. Try the Gulf side when the weather allows and Sand Island for some reds working the shore.

Good luck, the rain will end some day. Meanwhile I’m going back to work on my ark. We should start to dry out before October, I hope.

For all those interested, on September 19th at Faulkner University in Fairhope, CCA is sponsoring a Fish Talk. It will start at 6:30 on Thursday in the Auditorium off Fairhope Ave. Dr Jim Franks will discuss Tarpon along the Gulf Coast. The Eastern Shore Fly Fishers will be having fly casting and tying starting at 5:30 that evening. Hot dogs and soft drinks will also be provided. Hope to see you there.
