June proved to be pretty hit or miss as most predicted. We saw very few kings over 12 pounds around the Muskegon area. We also didn’t boat big numbers of steelhead because there were still fresh steelhead bedding in the Muskegon and White rivers all the way into late June.
We are expecting the fishing to get better this month, as is the case in most years. The lake temperatures have been steadily climbing and with the warmer weather the lake will set up with some good thermoclines and temperature breaks. Once the thermoclines set up, we will be targeting fish within 10’ up or down from the break. At this time, our lure choices tend to be Big Weenie Brand rotators with meat rigs. A quick tip for running meat rigs – don’t be afraid to try different scents on the meat as many times you will find one the fish really want on a certain day. July is a great month out on the lake so get out there and have some fun.
