A permanent chill fills the air, hunting season is upon us, and the sun sets before 5 pm. There’s no way around it: winter is in full swing. Warm weather and sunshine seem years away, along with the boating and fishing seasons. But with the Progressive Insurance New England Boat Show just around the corner, summer fun may be a little closer than you think.
Produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, the nine-day show will be held at a new location, the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, from February 14 to the 22. With over 800 boats and accessories, 20 new exhibitors, dozens of daily seminars, and a range of activities, there will be something for boaters of all skill-levels and ages to enjoy.
Newcomers will be able to learn some tips at the new Progressive Insurance Boat School booth. Learn about the fundamentals of boat safety with pro-Mariners from the Annapolis School of Seamanship and get involved with interactive courses overviewing different types of boats and systems.
Experienced boaters will have the chance to partake in hands-on simulations at Fred’s Shed Interactive Learning Center. Brush up on some knowledge or learn some new tricks with marine technician Fred as he demonstrates the hottest new tools and teaches you how to keep things “shipshape”.
Learn how to take care of a boat’s motor and shop around for something new. Visit booth 2240 to see the six-time world champion Miss Geico racing team, who will be presenting the new Miss Geico racing boat that has a speed of 170 mph. Talk to the team about their plans to replace her engine and acquire a speed of 200 mph.
Sailors will be able to visit over 100 booths of sailing products, marine electronics, and sail makers at the 2015 show. Browse, board and explore countless sailboats, grab some new gear for the summer, and gain professional sailing advice.
This year, attendees will also have the opportunity to meet Dave Carraro of National Geographic’s Wicked Tuna. He will be signing autographs and meeting fans on February 20, 21 and 22. With over 34 years of fishing experience, fans will be able to ask him about boating, fishing, and anything else on their minds.
With free seminars, informational clinics and professional advice featured at the Progressive Insurance New England Boat Show, anyone can become a pro-boater in no time. Bring the whole family and have a fun-filled day while escaping the winter weather. Doors open at 10 am on February 14 and tickets can be purchased at www. newenglandboatshow.com.
