[dropcap]N[/dropcap]ovember here in South East NC especially the areas of Southport/Oak Island, NC is generally an extension of October. The weather gets cooler, the Spanish mackerel that have been here all summer, on the beach and the chopper blues begin to thin out. The Bull red drums and the grey trout are still here and provide a great fight near shore. In the backwater, the speckled trout, red drum and some slow leaving flounder should be available providing the water is not to dirty from seasonal rains.

The Cape Fear should be holding Virginia mullet and some spots. Just be on the lookout for a groupings of boats.

The long awaited King Mackerel bite should continue from October through November producing some really large fish. If you don’t find them close to the beach move a little farther off, 15 mile Rock, Light House Rock, 18 mile Rocks, are a few good places to look. Be sure to troll live bait if possible or frozen cigar minnows pulled on a “Pirate Plug” to get those kings to bite.

Offshore, the fish are deep, but the bite is fantastic, with everything biting, black bass, vermilion snapper, African pompano, grouper, trigger fish, large sharks to name just a few. We use squid marinated in Pro-Cures Menhaden Scent to get the action started fast.

The Gulf Stream should be producing wahoo and black fin tuna and who know maybe a large Mahi or sailfish. Just be sure to watch the weather. The 100/400, Black Jack, and Steeples to name a few are good places to try your luck.

It’s never to late to go fishing. Just bundle up in a few layers of clothes, so you can loose some layers as the day warms up and enjoy the feeling of some type of  fish pulling on your line.

Until next time, God Bless all of you!!
