Offshore Fishing Forecast: Aug 2013

Hello again!

We are having a crazy summer fishing season. The fish are biting really well. Snapper season was very successful, as anglers brought in a large quality of fish. The overall fish size just got larger and larger. The only drawback to June, other than a super-short season, was the weather. The weather was horrible which many of you know. It rained, then it blew. We had very few good days.
August should prove to be fishing friendly. The weather should be less intrusive, I hope. Amberjack season is scheduled to open on August 1. Let’s all hope that happens. If they do open amberjack, that means we will be chasing the monsters of the deep with a vengeance. During snapper season we released quite a lot of HUGE fish, so we are really excited about going to the deep water.

The tackle on our boat this season will be Shimano TEKOTA-800 reels on Jarvis Walker 6’6’’ med. heavy rods with 60# blue smoke Andes line, 12oz. egg weight with a 4-foot leader of fluorocarbon snelled to a red #11 circle hook. Have had a lot of reports of the Blue water being really close, like 265 close. So bring some heavy gear if you go just in case. Also pull a pelagic permit because the fine is as big as the fish. The Fins And Grins fishing team will be fishing the Carl Legett Memeorial Fishing Tournament in Biloxi on the first weekend of the month. Stop by and check us out.

As always keep your lines wet and your eyes on the horizon
Thanks,
Captain Bobby Simmons
