Hello and welcome to the Coastal Angler’s August fishing forecast.
This is the last call for the mighty blue marlin. July was epic and I’m guessing August will be too. How do you catch one you ask? Well, you must get off the couch first and head out to the Gulf stream. Hook yourself a bullet bonito and slow troll him from 150 to 350 ft deep of water. Use something that can handle a big fish, like a Penn 50v. That will do the trick!
The bottom fishing will also be on fire. Monster flags and pumpkin mutton will be lurking below. Best bait? Well, I say a fresh bonito strip with lots of meat. Give it a try.
One more thing to talk about, the deep water dolphin bite will be on. Calm winds and long weed lines will give way to some nice dollies fishing. Head out the inlet and look for weed lines out in the 600 to 800 ft range. Don’t be afraid to venture out deeper to look for better fishing. Remember…nothing ventured, nothing gained.
