Welcome to the Coastal Angler Magazine fishing report for February. We had cold weather in January which produced some really good fishing for our area and I expect that February will continue to be good. Strong winds and rough seas seemed to be the daily menu last month, but I believe we are past the worst of it. The freezing conditions have pushed some really great fishing down south. Along the beach you can expect Spanish mack’s, large schools of jacks, with an occasional pompano and permit to be found between the Breakers and the end of the Singer Island condos.
For the offshore anglers, keep your eye out for the full moon and get those wahoo rods ready. Along with great hoo fishing there will be a lot of sails in our area making the migration south. Kite fishing will produce the most action, but just flat lining a live goggle will work too. If you’re looking to feed the family, the deep-water wrecks will hold a lot of vermillion snapper and a few groupers. We use cut squid on our charters. It seems to stay on the hook when dropping down. Remember it’s five per person limit. Good luck!
