August is shaping up nicely on the Pere Marquette River. Water levels and temps have been good through July. The trout fishing has been great any time of day. This time of year foam is home. Big foam hopper and other terrestrial patterns work well throughout the day. Early mornings we are seeing trico’s coming off (they’re one of our smallest mayflies). You will be surprised on some of the bigger trout that will feed on them. Night fishing with mice and other giant fly patterns can also produce some great fish in this late summer month. Get out on the river enjoy some end of summer trout action before you know it the snow will be on the ground.
