Port Salerno Seafood Festival returns to the Treasure Coast

The Port Salerno Commercial Fishing Dock Authority presents the 7th Annual Port Salerno Seafood Festival on Saturday, January 26th, 2013. This local event boasts the best seafood that you will find at any event, along with a variety of music, arts, crafts and local business vendors, a Kids Fun Zone, mermaids, pirates and more.

“There is a reason why the seafood is so delicious,” says Edward “Butch” Olsen, Jr., president of the Port Salerno Commercial Fishing Dock Authority. “We serve the freshest seafood and locally caught fish when possible. The majority of our seafood is prepared by the fishermen and their families. This is truly a family affair.” The event also features seafood from Port Salerno area restaurants.

Seacoast National Bank is the featured sponsor and will be presenting the Main Stage entertainment. This will be the first time that the event has had a gate admission. The charge will be $5 for adults and children 12 and under are free. The event will also feature complimentary transportation to and from the event via trolley or water taxi.

“In past years we collected a $2 transportation fee and a suggested donation of $3 at the gate,” says Olsen, “so in an effort to simplify the event logistics and have a more definitive gate count, we determined this was the year to make the change. We continue to improve and grow the event and this should assure that the event will continue to be a great local event. A portion of the proceeds is distributed to local charities and we encourage attendees to contribute to our food drive by bringing non-perishable food items which we will be collecting at the gate. We are a pet loving group, but please leave your pets at home.”

New this year will be an enhanced Kids Fun Zone, which will be run by the Boys & Girls Club of Martin County, sponsored by TD Bank and an expanded community booth and arts & crafts area.

The Port Salerno Seafood Festival is unique in the fact that this one day event attracts 35,000 attendees and is run mostly by volunteers.

“We truly rely on our volunteers to make this event successful and we need approximately 600 people to set up, serve refreshments, sell tickets, t-shirts and more,” says Olsen.
