From the Publisher – January 2021

Well, we’ve completed another trip around the sun and as the Grateful Dead sang, what a long strange trip it’s been. I think we can all say that we’re glad 2020 is over and that it’s behind us. The new year provides us all with an opportunity to make a fresh start. As we go into our fifth year of publishing Coastal Angler Fort Lauderdale, that’s just what we plan to do. In the upcoming months, we’ll be freshening things up a bit by doing some redesign of the magazine and are looking at adding some new contributors and departments. If there is something you would like to see in the magazine, please reach out and let us know. We’d love to hear from you.

Though the temperatures are cooler, fishing in January should be red hot. Wahoo fishing has been off the chain and should remain that way for the next few months. Check out this month’s feature article by Capt. Ryan Palmer for some tips to sharpen your game. The sailfish bite has been improving with each passing front, with some boats posting double digit releases. There have been some huge schools of bullet sized blackfin tuna and bonito up and down the coast. That’s a good sign that we could see a few blue marlin showing up to feed on those schools of fish. Keep an eye out for dolphin on the color changes, especially after a few days of hard east winds.

We wish you all the best for a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Keep reelin,
