This month, I would like to take a moment to recognize Capt. Neal Stark. Each month, Neal provides our freshwater forecast and shares some tips and tricks to help our readers catch more fish. However, behind the scenes, Neal runs a true non profit organization called Fishing With America’s Finest. Through FWAF, Neal and his army of volunteers spend a great deal of time working with veterans that are suffering from PTSD or life altering injuries through piscatorial therapy. In honor of Veterans Day and all that have served or continue to serve, we are proud to publish this month’s feature article written by Neal himself. Thank you Neal for all that you do to help our veterans.
November will also bring us some cooler temperatures and some of the best sailfishing of the year. As the frequency of cold fronts moving through our area increases, sailfish will start to feed more aggressively up and down our coastline. Kite fishing is certainly the most effective way to get hooked up, but acrobatic spindle beaks can also be caught by slow trolling live baits. The best baits for slow trolling are blue runners and goggle eyes. I like to use 40 to 50 pound fluorocarbon leader tied to a 5/0 to 7/0 circle hook. You will want to stagger your baits in the spread so they don’t swim too close to each other and get tangled. Put in your time and cover lots of water and you will be rewarded with a tail walking sailfish.
All the best to you and yours for a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving.
Keep reelin,
