Quepos Fishing Forecast and Report September/October 2015

Quepos Fishing Forecast

Offshore in Quepos during September and October, we should be seeing some sailfish every trip.  The night rains that we get in the mountains will wash out lots of debris, mostly sticks and tree trunks, and with the right currents we can get really nice defined weed lines out there.  Those weed lines are perfect breeding grounds for bait, and all that bait will bring in the big mahi and marlin.  I would expect to see several mahi per trip, some plate sized and some trophies, and the numbers of mahi should keep increasing until our peak month for dorado which is November.  Marlin usually like to go after the bait in the weed lines as well, and sometimes we can come across a big trunk out there floating and have multiple big marlin releases in a couple of hours.  We will have rain every day, but usually at night and usually it doesn’t affect the fishing.

Inshore fishing should be good as well.  There is usually quite a bit of bait at night for the bait guys to catch and sell in the morning, and we fish up in the rocks away from the flowing rivers where the big rooster fish live. Also there are some near shore bottom drop spots, about 8-10 miles out, which are loaded with snapper and grouper, so inshore fishing should be really good as well!  Some boats won’t go out that far on the inshore trips, so make sure you talk with the boats before the trips!  Overall, should be some great fishing here in Quepos, Costa Rica!

Thanks!
