It was a great day to be on Lake Okeechobee and the Big ‘O’ did not disappoint. Ninety-six teams competed in this 2nd qualifying event of the season and it took a 5-fish weight of 31.14-lbs to reel in the top spot. The team of Jared McMillan and Durand Locke captured 1st place and with it a $ 5,000 pay day. The team of Ron Yentz and Steve Forcell took 2nd Place honors with a 5-fish weight of 27.00 lbs and a check for $ 2,000. Third place went to the team of Jeff Zablo and Joe LaManna with a 5-fish weight of 24.52 lbs and they were rewarded with a $1,500 pay-out. In total there were ten teams with over 20-lbs bag weights. With rising lake levels, most of the teams turned to flipping and pitching deep into the pads to find their fish. Typical of summer fishing on the Big ‘O’, the bite came early with most teams getting their 5-fish limit just a few hours into the event then spending the rest of the day looking for those kickers. The next tournament will be held on August 13th at Roland Martin Marine Center in Clewiston, FL.
