INSHORE
The inshore fishing should be in full swing with plenty of trout taking top water baits at first light and again just before dark. The catch and release snook action should be as good as it gets in the Ft. Pierce Inlet for anglers using live baits. Look for redfish around the mangroves and along the shoreline at Round Island and Queen’s Cove. Try using a spoon or a piece of cut ladyfish. The snapper should be feeding along the channel edges and around the local bridges. Try using a live shrimp or a small white bait. The bite will be the best around the full moon. Look for tarpon around Big Mud Creek, in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and the Turning Basin. A live mullet will be hard to beat.
OFFSHORE
The middle of summer means hot, calm days and a slow bite for most anglers, however, look for scattered dolphin in 80 to 300 feet of water. A skirted ballyhoo in green/yellow and pink/white will be hard to beat. There should be some sailfish in the 60 to 100 foot range and they will be taking both ballyhoo and live baits. Look for schools of bait on the beaches and you should find the kingfish, tarpon and plenty of bonita. Just like the inshore snapper bite, the offshore bite around the full moon should be red hot on both live and cut baits when fishing over the reefs and wrecks.
