This will be the first fishing report that I have written that will not cover the St. Lucie River. Due to poor water quality my clients and I have chosen not to fish or boat in the St. Lucie River. I did hear of a couple bass caught at the Roosevelt Bridge. There has been some decent trout caught in the Indian River on the east side north of Nettles Island. Early morning before the heat and wind picks up have been productive throwing topwater plugs like the bone colored Skitterwalk or D.O.A. Airhead rigged with no weight. Work the mangroves if the tide is high and you might wake up a big snook lying under the limbs waiting to blast on plastic. The edges of the grass flats and potholes will hold some nice redfish. The D.O.A. Shad Tail in root beer/gold glitter has been a hot bait rigged on a 1/8 jig head. Tripletails like to hang around the channel markers in the Intracoastal Waterway and find a live shrimp and jig combo irresistible. Tarpon have been around the inlets and cruising up the beach in small pods. Be the first angler on them in the morning and you got a good shot getting one to bite. Look for nervous water off the beach and you will find the bait schools ball up getting slammed by big jacks and tarpon with sharks in the mix.

Watch the afternoon thunderstorms and wear your Bullfrog.
