[dropcap]L[/dropcap]obster season opens this month and the visibility should be super clear on the inshore reefs to hunt down the bugs. Snorkel shallow or dive deep, the lobsters are under the rocky ledges. Many lobster 8-pounds to 12-pounds are caught in our local waters. I like to look for the pork fish, which usually indicates a good ledge with a lobster condo nearby. Tarpon are showing in the St. Lucie River and you can slow troll a live mullet or pitch a greenie around the inlets. On calm mornings, go ahead and run to the Boils with crabs for permit or tarpon. Many sharks frequent the Boils, so if you’re into a good fight, a fresh bloody bonito will do the trick. The Ten Cent and Roosevelt bridges will have a good black drum bite this month. Shrimp on a jig head or clam strips (scent) are good baits. Throw the Super Spook around docks and seawalls for some spectacular strikes from jacks and big snook. Up near the power plant on either side of the river, there has been a good snook and trout bite. Go with a walk the dog style plug like a Skitterwalk or Zara Spook at first light then switch to D.O.A. C.A.L. jigs on 1/8-ounce heads. There has been a lot of big mullet up that way, so look for the reds following the mullet. Keep the waterways clean.
