Swainglers

Bus driver, Pat Smiley

By Tammy Parris

Swain High School’s first-ever fishing club, The Swainglers, concluded their first year of fishing! I had the privilege of leading a great group of students. Many fish were hooked and LOTS of laughs were had. Several waterways, including the Tuckasegee River and Fontana lake, were invaded by two dozen teenagers each month. Our fishing time was limited, but that didn’t stop the number of fish on the lines. These experienced anglers were always prepared and managed to reel ‘em in!

Trips couldn’t have happened if it weren’t for my great co-leader and bus driver, Samantha McFalls, school nurse, and Pat Smiley, teacher assistant and bus driver. Without them, our fishing excursions would not have been possible.

I look forward to next fall when we start our second year of this popular club. Our graduated seniors will be missed, but I wish them well in their future. Now that summer break is here, I gave the Swainglers some summer homework, which is to go fishing!
