Hello there guys and girls! This is Captain Mike Roberts of the Blue Fin out of Freeport, TX. This has so far been another great year out on the Gulf. The blue water has moved back in and at some points it is not far out.
We have spent the last month chasing shrimp boats. We have found several Dorado, from small chickens to teenagers to some nice bulls. The black fin have set more of a challenge behind the boats this year but we have been able to land several nice size ones. I have spent some time trolling and searching weed lines and rips. These have produced some nice Wahoo along with larger Cobia.
To me it seems like every species has its year and Kingfish have called this year theirs! The last month or so we have found them from 10 miles off the beach to 60 miles out. At the right place and the right time of the day you cannot get bait in fast enough. The weather has given us a majority of calm seas but got some bumpy ones in there as well. As we all know the gulf coast has been hit with Hurricane Harvey and Irma. This will bring some changes to fishing but things will soon bounce back and come back stronger.
From all of us at Blue Fin Charters our thoughts and prayers go out to anyone that has been affected by these storms. As always fingers crossed for calm seas and tight lines. Stay safe out there and good luck.
Texas Strong!
