The sound side and creeks will be alive with good numbers of reds and specks (remember the specks are closed to recreational fishermen until at least June 15). The bridges inside will see some good sheepshead action as well as some nice black drum action. The inlet will be full of bluefish of every size.
The surf will see a good number of sea mullet as well as red drum. The reds usually go on the feed at the south end as well as around Lea Island. Cut mullet and Kastmasters will be baits of choice for the reds, and shrimp or sand fleas for the mullet.
The chopper blues should be moving through this month. They love some live bait dangled in front of them. There should also be some good sea mullet fishing from the pier as long as the water doesn’t heat up too quickly.
Offshore, the king action will heat up as the month progresses. The end of April can make for some super fine king action as well as wahoo. The kings will be moving ever closer to the beach and you will start picking some up in the three- to 12-mile range by mid-May.
Tight lines and fair winds.
