A s summer rolls on night time trout action starts to fire up! Frog and mouse patterns just below the surface streamers are all great choices to run for these nocturnal predators. Time to break out the 7 weight fly rods and stout tippets in the 1x and ox range. The takes can be violent and exciting just a fair warning night fishing for trout is extremely addictive! Just be safe out there use basic wading sense. Tell someone the general area to concentrate the search efforts on, carry a extra light, and know your put in’s and take outs.

August is a great time for terrestrial fishing as well. Hoppers, beetles, ants, and basically anything with rubber legs will all be productive. Modest hatches of cahills, caddis, BWO’s, ephoron’s will dangle on until the end of the month as well on various stretches of rivers. This time of year can provide some great river smallmouth fishing. The river is usually fairly vacant from canoeist’s and tubers into the evening, and the top water action can be phenomenal various poppers and sliders fit the bill just fine. Weather depending if the water cools near the pier heads it’s not uncommon for the first batch of kings to enter the lower rivers although numbers may be questionable. August is a diverse month for fishing get out and enjoy!
