The 2016-2017 season for the Junior Division of Treasure Coast Casters kicked off July 17, 2016. Although tournament organizers expected a great bite with an incoming tide and just a little wind, the action was a bit slow.
In addition to several catfish, jacks and an eel being pulled in, three crabs were caught. All fish and crabs were released.
First place went to Noah Westbury, of Port St. Lucie, a third grader at Manatee Elementary. Cameron Hicks, of Fort Pierce and a sixth grade student at Weatherbee Elementary, took second place. Marcus Schubart, of Fort Pierce and a fifth grader at Lakewood Park Elementary, placed third.
Noah Westbury caught the largest fish of the tournament, a 1.9-pound catfish. Besides a trophy, Noah received a Fishing Center gift card, donated by longtime volunteers Pat and Gwen.
The next Junior Division tournament will take place this month. Details to come!
