[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hat a great day we had for the kick off of the 2015-2016 season for the Junior Division of the Treasure Coast Casters. The small group of 12 anglers caught and released a total of 29 fish. Unfortunately, due to the high temperature, we did have three anglers who left early, and we hope they are feeling better now.
It seems that catfish, snapper and puffers were the fish of the day. We had 13 catfish come to the table, along with 7 snapper, and 7 puffers. One jack and a pigfish also made it to the table. Junior Division anglers were very happy to be busy catching and releasing fish. As it goes in tournaments world-wide, not everyone caught fish, but our numbers were pretty impressive—we only had one Treasure Coast Caster who didn’t catch a fish.
RESULTS
1ST Place: Kaleb Kneip, 5th grade, Bayshore Elementary, Port St. Lucie – 8 fish
2nd Place: Troy Daher, 2nd grade, Pierce Hammock Elementary, Loxahatchee – 7 fish
3rd Place: Cameron Hicks, 5th grade, Weatherbee Elementary, Fort Pierce – 5 fish
Biggest fish went to Jordyn Beeten for her 1.6-pound catfish. Along with her trophy and a Treasure Coast Casters t-shirt, Jordyn received a gift card to the Fishing Center that was donated by Pat and Gwen.
After trophies were awarded, we held our drawing. Troy Daher won a $25 gift card to Bass Pro Shop; Talia Montalvo won a signed copy of The Fighting Jack that was written by our own Jordan Leitenbauer. Cameron Hicks won a rod and reel combo that was donated by Clint Walker, the owner of the Fishing Center. Dillon Furiato won a camo hat that was donated by West Marine. Brandon and Jordan Leitenbauer, Dillon Furiato and Talia Montalvo each received a custom fish towel that Pat and Gwen made for the Treasure Coast Casters.
We also recognized Pat and Gwen, giving them each a personalized fishing shirt with the Treasure Coast Casters logo on the back. They have done so much for the group and we just wanted to show them how much we appreciate them.
See you at the next tournament!
