Treasure Coast Dive Forecast – January 2013

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he good news is that diving on the Treasure Coast continues to improve. We were out recently on a number of trips and found better than thirty feet of visibility at depths greater than fifty feet. Fish being taken are cobia of very nice size, gag grouper, sheepshead and mangrove snapper, as well as some lobster. North of the Loran Tower there seems to be fewer sharks trying to help you with your catch. Reports from Jupiter are that in some places they are losing about forty percent of the fish being sent to surface. The bad news is that we are now into winter weather patterns. As the cold fronts increase in frequency, seas will be kicking up so you need to take advantage of the good days when you can. My question is this…why are the “good” days during the week, and days were the seas are angry on weekends? We will be running the Gillbilly and the Heartless Bitch every chance we can this winter. Remember, any day diving in South Florida during the winter is better than diving in ice water in the cold Northern Atlantic! Give us a call for availability at StuartSCUBA. As always, we hope to see you under the boat.
